Many people that have issues with weight are always seeking ways to feel and look better, and due to this demand, you will find a wide variety of weight loss companies that promise to help in the weight loss process in one way or another. Some of these companies promote fad diets, while others offer powders and pills – many of these strategies usually prove to be ineffective in the long-term, but this doesn’t hinder their popularity. This review takes a look at It Works, a company in the weight loss niche, to help you determine if it is worth investing in.
WHAT IS IT WORKS?
It Works is an MLM company that was launched in 2001 by Mark and Cindy Pentecost. Mark currently serves as the current president and CEO of the company. According to the company’s website, Mark became worked as one of the distributors for a telecommunications MLM in the 1990s. Upon gaining experience, he decided to leave the company and launch his own in the weight loss niche, which became known as It Works.
WHAT PRODUCT RANGE DOES IT WORKS OFFER?
It Works operates in the health and wellness niche, with a focus on weight loss and body sculpting. Here are some of the products and their pricing:

This product is meant to control your body’s starch and sugar digestion and consequently reduce the onset of carb-induced weight gain and body fat. A bottle contains 60 caplets. The retail price is $65, whereas the monthly auto-ship price is $39.
- ThermoFight X
This product is hailed as containing a weight-loss ingredient that is clinically proven to help you lose up to 31 pounds lost over 90 days. It contains chromium, green coffee bean, and caffeine. It is described as dairy-free, non-GMO, soy-free, keto-friendly, and vegan. The retail price is $5, whereas the monthly auto-ship price is $36.
- It Works! Best Fast Fuel
This is a product that is meant to provide macronutrients that support ketosis and consequently crush cravings and keep you energized. Ingredients incorporated in the product include sunflower oil, coconut oil, and avocado oil. It retails at $70, whereas the monthly auto-ship price $42.
- Advanced Formula Fat Fighter
This product supposedly blocks some of the carbs and from meals. It has a cactus-based formula and is meant to be taken an hour after meals. It retails at $42 whereas the monthly auto-ship price is $25.

This is an organic celery stalk powder that supposedly helps in the hydration and cleansing of your system as well as in the improvement of your digestive health. It retails at $50, whereas the monthly auto-ship price is $39.
Nutrition
- It Works! Super Reds Jar
This product is infused with naturally sourced berries, superfoods, and fruits which are sources of antioxidants and vitamins. It is intended to provide protection against metabolic stress and provide a nutritious boost to the immune system. It retails at $65, whereas the monthly auto-ship price is $39.
- New You
This product is meant to stimulate the production of natural human growth hormone (HGH) in the body to enhance lean muscle mass. It retails at $89, whereas the monthly auto-ship price is $49.
WHAT IS THE COST OF BECOMING PART OF THE IT WORKS BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY?
If you want to join the It Works business opportunity, you are required to pay a standard membership fee that will set you back $35. THE IT WORKS COMPENSATION PLAN
The It Works compensation plan is based on a unilevel commission structure where distributors are paid a range of commissions and bonuses based on the sales that they make, the sales in their downlines, and their rank.
Distributor Ranks
Here are the distributor ranks in the It Works compensation plan and the qualifications you are required to meet to attain them:
- Distributor
Generate and maintain $150 PBV (personal business volume) a month or $80 in monthly auto-ship orders.
- Executor
Generate and maintain $150 PBV a month or $80 in monthly auto-ship orders, as well as two qualified unilevel legs.
- Ruby Executive
Generate and maintain $150 PBV a month or $80 in monthly auto-ship orders, as well as three qualified unilevel legs (one has to be executive ranked).
- Emerald Executive
Generate and maintain $150 PBV a month or $80 in monthly auto-ship orders, as well as four qualified unilevel legs (two of them have to be ruby executive ranked), or a monthly sales volume of $8,000 in your downline.
- Diamond
Generate and maintain $150 PBV a month or $80 in monthly auto-ship orders, as well as five qualified unilevel legs (one ruby ranked affiliate and at least one emerald ranked one), or a monthly sales volume of $10,000 in your downline.

- Ambassador Diamond

Residual Commissions
Residual commissions under the It Works compensation plan are paid out using a unilevel MLM compensation structure. Commissions are paid down six levels. Here is a breakdown of the earnings on the different ranks:
- Distributor
Earn 10% on levels 1 and 2.
- Executive
Earn 10% on levels 1 and 2 and 5% on level 3.
- Ruby Executive
Earn 10% on levels 1 and 2 and 5% on levels 3 and 4.
- Emerald Executive
Earn 10% on levels 1 and 2, 5% on levels 3 to 5, and 2% on level 6.
Generation Bonus
The generation bonus is paid out to distributors who have affiliates in their downlines who have attained the diamond rank or higher. This bonus is paid out to members as a percentage of the personal sales volume down five levels of the diamond rank or higher:
- Diamond
2% on all the first level of distributors that have attained the diamond rank or higher.
- Double Diamond
2% on the first level, 4% on the second.
- Triple Diamond
2% on the first and third levels, 4% on the second.
- Presidential Diamond
2% on the first and third levels, 4% on the second level and 1% on the fourth one.
- Ambassador Diamond
2% on the first and third levels, 4% on the second level and 1% on the fourth and fifth ones.
CAB Bonus
The customer acquisition bonus (CAB) is paid out to affiliates that have achieved the emerald rank each time that a qualified distributor becomes part of their downline. A qualified distributor refers to an affiliate who purchases the $199 package, signs up for the monthly $80 auto-ship order, and recruits 2 customers.
- Diamond – $80
- Double Diamond – $40
- Triple Diamond – $15
- Presidential Diamond – $10
- Ambassador Diamond – $5
Car Bonus
Regardless of the rank that you attain as a distributor, if you manage to accumulate 60 customers who are on monthly auto-ship and generate a minimum of $3,000 a month in personal sales, you will receive $600 every month.
PROS
- The company has been in existence for a while
As previously mentioned, the company was founded in 2001. This means that it has been in existence for about 18 years. This longevity is something of a rarity, especially with MLM companies as many of them, tend to go out of business within a few years of being launched the fact that It Works has been around for a while could mean that they might be something they are doing right.
- The products are reasonably priced
The products being sold by the company are relatively affordable. As a result, they might be more appealing to customers.
- Detailed compensation plan
The compensation plan details the commissions and bonuses you can expect to earn as an affiliate as well as the ranks that you are expected to attain.
- Disclosure of affiliate Earnings

- The niche is competitive

- You need to recruit new affiliates
One of the main ways you get to earn commissions and rise in ranks according to the It Works compensation plan is by recruiting new distributors. Recruitment is hardly the easiest way to earn an income online and will inevitably take up a lot of time. Additionally, you will need some level of online marketing skills to attract as many customers as possible.
- There is not much money to be made with the company
Because of the way It Works is structured, there is not much money to be made working as an affiliate for the company.
- No proof that the products work as is claimed
There is no proof provided by the company that clearly shows that their products work as they claim they would. This could discourage some customers from making purchases.
VERDICT
It Works is a legitimate business that has been around for quite a while. However, there is not much money to be made working as a distributor for the company because the company is set up in such a way that it allows only those that occupy the very top positions to reap the most benefits. This is not unusual for MLM companies! The good news is there is an alternative!
WHAT IS BETTER THAN IT WORKS?
I am not a fan of MLM. The earning potential for most people is extremely low. You have to recruit and sell stuff to your family and friends that they ay not need. You also need to part with a substantial amount of money to get started.
I prefer a business model that does not require big outlays of cash, shipping or inventory headaches. I am talking about affiliate marketing.
